Should I release this turtle?

I acidently hook a red ear slider at a lake and he swallow the hook( like stick in his throat) so I ask fisherman around me they said that you have to pull out the hook otherwise the turtle will die so I feel guilty because I didn't mean to hook him I mean to hook the giant bass( around 8 lb) so I bring him home and care for him inside a pond That I made out from kiddie pond for 2 week already and he seem fine now And I already cut the line so should I release him back because everyday I feel more and more guilty when i look at him I don't have a heater or any turtle thing so should I just let him go because it quite hard to catch a fish in that lake even for a turtle so I think i should release him but I think he might die because of the hook I'm stuck so please help me decide what to do
