Question about lightyears/planets?

Me and my dad were talking about planets and lightyears, we both find that topic interesting. My dad told me about the recently discovered red dwarf star "gliese" that has a planet that's about 20 lightyears away from earth. Does that mean if you looked through a telescope from earth at gliese (I know it's impossible) would you be looking at what it looked like 20 years ago? Thanks :)
